I am an expert on the subject being from Tampa Bay. After what I saw today I vote YES.
They are this year. But seriously I would say no, because they at least have one of the best WRs in the NFL with C. Johnson.

I wasn’t goingto say anything because my team is the Seahawks. Then I remembered that Seattle had a couple of things to deal with this year that the Lions didn’t. A tough schedule and half the damned team on IR.
Detroit just might be the worst in history.
Ah, yes, I lived down near Westshore and Gandy. Could be at the Old Sombrero in 15 minutes. Back in the days when they would put STP on the goal posts in anticipation of the first win. Before the Bucs, the University of Tampa had some great games. Solomon, Matuszak, Orndorff(aka Mr. Wonderful) Great times and good football. University of Tampa had NO problem booking home games in October and November.
And to get back on thread, the first Pro game I ever saw, my Dad took me to a game at old Griffith Stadium in DC. Lions/Redskins... heh, the Lions won.

Lions owner = Bill Ford = Ford Motor Company = Big advertising dollars
Forget the Lions, they are a lost cause as Ford and the front office management care nothing about winning or losing. They do not realize how much more money they could make by creating a team that actually wins. Either that, or they do not want to spend the money. And why should they? They spend little, have ruined many pontentially good careers of some very good players (Barry Sanders, anyone?), and walk away with plenty of money.
I'm sorry, Detroit fans. But until you stop buying tickets and attending games, The Lions will continue to be a losing team - because all you do is line Ford's pockets with your money.

The way they rolled over today they certainly are trying to attain that standard.
That guy to McKays left in the picture..to the right to the viewer is Dennis (Denny) Frizell...he took over at the University of Tampa as football coach, after Earle Bruce left for Iowa State, then on to take over from Woody Hayes at OSU. Frizell was the coach at UT when Matuszak was the Number one draft pick in 73. UT had an enrollment of about 2000 in those days, but, on occasion, would pack the Old Sombrero (about 40k) before its expansion to about 76k when the Bucs came to town. THAT is when the NFL knew they had a market in Tampa/St Pete. John McKay fell in love with Tampa in those days, and most of Tampa loved John McKay. He was happy to get away from the SoCal “rat race” and he mentioned it many times.

At a post-game press conference in 1976 “You guys don’t know the difference between a football and a bunch of bananas.”
The following week after a media member has dropped off a case of bananas at his door - “You guys don’t know the difference between a football and a Mercedez-Benz.”
Saw a few references to coach McKay, also didn’t he say he objected to being called the worst team ever; the 2nd worst or one of the worst ever but not THE worst.
To some other questions, of course, The Pistons as well won the NBA recently, maybe more than once. The Red Wings are good but even the Tigers I think were a middle of the pack baseball team which isn’t too bad.
