It's a nanotechnology site reporting on a 'most bizarre nano image' competition. If you search the competition mentioned in the article, you'll get loads of pictures - most of which are interpretations of natural phenomena, but some of which obviously are goofy shapes the engineers decided to make. Hey, if you've got to try to make something on a scale like that, why not something fun? Considering the other kinds of stuff these people come up with, 'nanobamas' do not surprise me at all.
