Very cool! Wish I had my old Datsun.. I’d sacrifice it to a few barriers. ;-)

After his own contract demands forced him to another car with fewer budget constraints in 2009, this driver’s ego was bruised repeatedly when several crew members honored their sponsor’s request to stay with their car and crew chief, thus declining his invitation to come along for a new ride. While his teammates gave season end gifts/bonuses upwards of $2,000, he “thanked” the crew that put him in the Chase with $100 gift cards, the value of which many consider an inadequate reward and share of the team’s 2008 season winnings.

Jayski 12/29 story “Bowyer gets a new plane” then see comments it says Bowyer givs his team Walmart gift cards. ALso see in nascar.com he won over 8million last year.

NASCAR’s Mafia connection?
News came out this week that couple of ex-employees of ISC (NASCAR’s “sister” company that is completely separate … wink, wink) were sentenced to probation for their role in the failed efforts to bring a speedway to Staten Island, New York. It appears the Gambino crime family was throwing extra money in the direction of these ISC officials in relation to the trucking of dirt for the speedway. Also, the indictment indicates that several Gambino family members were working to make the speedway a reality, which indicates they had something to gain from its creation.

I fully recognize that NASCAR was founded by moonshiners, and I have no issue with that, but dealing with real-life gangsters is a whole new deal that I hope was isolated to this incident. When I buy my $4 hot dog at Daytona, I don’t want to be supporting the next whacking by the Gambinos.

I followed the mess in India on Twitter since it had far moe info than anywhere else. There are trolls and there are those with loose lips.

Not so much in the Israeli operation.

The Israel Defense Forces, recognizing that success in neutralizing the Hamas movement in Gaza is as much a public relations challenge as a military one, has enlisted an arsenal of Internet tools to take their message directly to a global audience. There is a military channel on the video-sharing site YouTube where you can watch suspected Hamas sites being obliterated by ordnance; blogs that spread the message of the foreign affairs ministry; and in the newest wrinkle, a news conference conducted through the microblogging service Twitter.

Bad part about living in a small town is that it’s hard to replace that kind of job.

I feel your pain!!! I just finished applying for jobs online this morning because the money to hire independent drafting contractors in this area seems to be pretty dried up. I've been scraping by on savings for the last 2 months so guess it's time to bite the bullet and think about not being an independent again for a while. ~sigh~

CARBONDALE — NASCAR celebrity Jeff Gordon has sold most of nearly 2,000 acres he owned in the high country above Missouri Heights to a development group headed by the man who created the Dallas National Golf Club in Texas a few years ago.

And John MacDonald, formerly of the Ernst & Young accounting and consulting firm, said he plans to build much the same kind of project here as he did in Dallas. The course designer is to be golf architect Tom Fazio, who also designed the Dallas National course.

The deal has yet to close, said broker Scott Davidson of the Aspen Associates Realty Group.

The due diligence work, including applying for development approvals from Garfield County, is in the early stages, and the deal is not expected to be completed until mid-2009, MacDonald predicted. Neither man would disclose the selling price.

Gordon, who reportedly bought the land outside of Carbondale in 2006 for $9 million, was not even thinking of selling the land until MacDonald approached him. But over time he became convinced it was the thing to do, according to John Bickford, Gordon’s stepfather and business manager.

“I found it by actually driving around and looking for golf property,” MacDonald said of the deal, adding with a hearty laugh, “It took a while, but I wore him down.”

Gordon retains a 50-acre parcel of his own, as well as “a couple of memberships in the club,” MacDonald said.

The pastures and rolling hills of the property are some of the most secluded and scenic terrain that remains undeveloped in the valley. The property has only a humble old ranch house and a tiny log cabin, along with a few barns and sheds. There are no opulent displays that would indicate it’s owned by a popular, multimillionaire race car driver.

Gordon’s parcel overlooks the proposed golf course site but is not near it, MacDonald said, stressing that the 300-acre golf course will not be peppered with homes, as are a number of other golf subdivisions that have sprung up in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The land actually is two ranches — known formerly as the Gould and Gordon ranches — divided by a small parcel of public land that Bickford described as a “driveway” along which the ranchers would once drive herds of cattle.

My Wish for You in 2009 May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet of $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words . . . May 2009 be the best year of your life!!!

Wow. That is a very cool blessing. And may it be yours through this year and all the rest.
