Immigration is a key plank here and our Party has put ourselves in a bad spot (for now). I believe President GWB was likely right strategically with regard to immigration (and finding a way to work a reasonable solution while putting the GOP in a position of strength with the Hispanic voters) however, tactically he went about it all wrong (he should have secured the border first, for our base).
Our base then, turned, and because tactically the WH was off course, we gave away our strategic needs as well.
I agree. Secured border first would have been nice.
He also could have communicated ANY kind of vision on the matter; he’s subverting the country, he’s got white guilt, we can’t get these people out of the country so let’s get ‘em into the fold and make them productive citizens.
He has never shown leadership on the matter. Maybe he was focused on the war. It would have been a hard sell, but at least I could agree or disagree with it.
