The problem with this and all other "doomsday scenarios" is, BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, dozens of times throughout the 1800s and into the 20th century. I'm not going to recount all the numerous times people on ALL sides have thought a) the country was finished or b) their particular party would never regain power or permanently hold power. Doesn't happen.

Quite the contrary, Strauss and Howe seem to be onto something with their cyclical view of American generational history. We do seem to go through historical cycles in which there is an age of excess, lax controls, entitlement mentality, followed by an age of reform, followed by an age of adulthood. This goes all the way back to the 1600s.

Not only can no one predict the political ramifications of the credit/economic mess, but international events have a way of rapidly turning winners into losers and vice versa.

The whining and "poor us" crap gets really old. When Gideon took the Israelites to fight the enemies of the Jews, he had 30,000 men and God said, "TOO MANY!" Many were of faint heart, many were complainers. God gave Gideon a test to weed out the uncommitted. Gideon was down to 3,000, and God said, "Still too many grumblers!" and again gave another test to weed out the weak. Gideon fought with 300 . . . and won. Lenin took Russia, a nation of 160 MILLION, with 20,000 committed communists.

Now, if you're all finished feeling sorry for yourselves, I'm ready to join the other 299 of you and TAKE BACK THE COUNTRY.

The problem is, a history tells us, once the govt implements as new service or social program, it cannot be undone.

Reagan, as conservative as he was, never undid any of the new deal. Never eliminated the department of Education or Energy like he promised.

It is the reality of the situation. I have come to the same conclusions. People talk of 2010 and 2012. There will not be any republican wins.

The fix is in. These people are out for total control. I can’t wait to see the coming power struggle between Pelosi/Reid and the white house. Now that will be entertaining.

Yes, become active, we have to hit these commies tit for tat. No more sitting back and taking the high road. We must, have to get down in the dirt with these people.

Obviously our so called leadership has taken to a cruise ship to cry in thier beer. Bastards!!! It looks like it is us Joe and Jane sixpack that is going to have to take matters in our own hands.

Sad, but a lot of truth here. I think this country is now center-left and likely to remain so for some time. The producers are now expected to carry the heavy load, all the while allaying the anxieties of hordes of morons. It don’t look good unless Republicans simply out promise the Democrats. Maybe we can start with free dental! This is nothing new. I remember when I had to actually prepare my own lunch for school. This sort of thing is expected now. Those free lunches were supposed to get those children ready for academics. It hasn’t worked. There are more morons than ever and they are breeding more morons ad infinitum at an exponential rate. And if they vote, they vote Democrat. Get used to it or move. Any suggestions out there?

I am not going to kill myself. I want to see who will destroy this country faster and how - 0Bama’s economic plan or Osama’s nukes.

Your latest posts indicate that you have already surrendered and you are telling everyone that we cannot win anymore. You went from an optimist before the elections to being totally negative and pessimist after the elections.

Stand up and fight, we will win again.

[Sidebar: I was living in Germany when the government imposed, almost overnight, a huge new tax on gas to pay for costs associated with the reunification. Gas prices suddenly doubled. It struck me that the Germans I knew simply shrugged and went on about their business. I remember commenting that my country had started a Revolution over the (English) government raising taxes on tea-—we weren’t the types to wake up to a 100% tax increase and simply shrug and move on.]

What happened earlier this year right here in America when “gas prices doubled”?

Where was the “tea party”?
Where was the revolution?
How many stopped from shrugging and going about their business?

Gas prices did not go up because the government raised fuel taxes and surcharges overnight. But I get your sentiment.

There wasn't a tea party, but there was a different kind of revolt. Many people just stopped buying gas for discretionary driving. IOW, they cut way back on “demand,” which eventually affected suppliers.

However, then the Precipice of 2008 occurred and oil prices tumbled because of the coming/occurring global recession.
