... It also got me interested when BO absolutely skipped over Ann’s time at Univ. of Washington...as if that didn’t even exist..."

I must admit I have not read the book. For timelines I have mostly followed articles and Beckwith's THE OBAMA FILE.

If you have the book, could you let us know just what he does have to say about that period?

I don’t have the book, and like you, have been getting information from articles and articles posted on Freerepublic.

However, the following links to several articles, in addition to excerpts from Obama’s book, “Dreams” illustrates the following:
1. University of Washington is NEVER referenced as a place where she attended ...either via extension or Full time status...or even the fact that she first lived with a friend of her mother’s, also in student housing and also at an apartment on Capitol Hill.
1. The gap of 1961 to 1962 is absolutely glossed over in Ann Dunham’s life.....

Wikipedia has now since been updated to include information about Ann Dunham as of 10/27/2008, it seems. However, the info that Obama put out seemed to gloss over this

Ann Dunham at Wikipedia...source citation #10.
Seattle Sun Times, April 8, 2008 by John Martin: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2004334057_obama08m.html (Looks to be changed as of 10/27/2008 ^ a b c Martin, Jonathan (2008-04-08). “Obama’s mother known here as ‘uncommon’”, 2008-10-27

Regarding Ann Dunham and what family members and “Dreams” book states about her post-high school time:
FAMILY STATES:
“Dunham, who died of ovarian cancer in 1995, is described as the “most dominant figure” in Obama’s life. Obama’s half-sister says Dunham remembered her teen years on Mercer Island so fondly that she wanted to attend college in Seattle. Instead, her parents took her after high school to Hawaii, where Obama was born.”

“DREAMS” book states:
“”Blazing new trails”

As graduation neared for the class of 1960, Dunham had hoped to join many of her classmates at the University of Washington, and was also accepted to the University of Chicago, according to Obama’s memoir, the best-selling “Dreams from My Father.”

But her father was restless. He found sales work in Hawaii, then newly a state. He insisted his daughter, who wouldn’t turn 18 until November, attend the University of Hawaii, Soetoro-Ng said.

“She always said [Mercer Island] was a great place to grow up,” said Soetoro-Ng, who now teaches at the University of Hawaii. “She found it a nice mix between civilization and the rural expression and nature.”

I don’t think the “Dreams” book touched on anything about Univ. of Washington

In the article, Friends of Ann say,
“The marriage was brief. By 1962, Dunham had returned to Seattle as a single mother, enrolling in the UW for spring quarter and living in an apartment on Capitol Hill. But friends said she got overwhelmed and returned to her family in Hawaii, and formally divorced Obama Sr. in 1964.

Also, The information about Univ of Washington timeframe had been requested by a person named Rudy who requested via email info from the University of Washington’s registrar.

From article-”Atlas reader Rudy emailed both the University of Washington and the University of Hawaii, and they sent him back dates of enrollment. It didn’t match the dates Wikipedia had for Stanley Ann Dunham. Bob tried to update Wikipedia and his updates got deleted within minutes”

Ms. Stanley Ann Dunham was enrolled at the University of Washington for:
Autumn 1961
Winter 1962
Spring 1962

So, there seem to be discrepancies between what is in the Obams “Dreams” book about his mother at Univ. of Washington,

At Wikipedia, source citation # 11http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/jun/01/barack_obamas_mother_more_just_kansas_girl/?print
Ann is stated to have enrolled at a University in Hawaii:
Barack Obama Sr.

“When she graduated, they moved to Hawaii, where she applied to a university and quickly fell in love with one of the few black students on campus.”

It continues:
“Moving to Indonesia”

The Dunham-Obama marriage failed within three years.

Obama returned to Kenya to pursue politics but became embittered by the tribal order. He had little contact with his ex-wife and son, though she never spoke a harsh word to Barry about his father except that he was a bad driver. (He died in a traffic accident in 1982.)

In Hawaii, Dunham had re-enrolled at the university to study anthropology”

University of Hawaii transcripts show a gap between 1960 and Fall 1963 and there’s no mention of anything about Univ of Washington during that gap timeframe in the Obama “Dreams” book.

At this link:
http://www.christianfaithandreason.com/obama.html

At that link is the article titled “The Myth of Barack Obama’s Early Life” by Michael Patrick Leahy, Summer 2008 online edition August 25, 2008 ( Excerpted from the book What Does Barack Obama Believe? to be published by Harpeth River Press in September 2008)
It has quotes by Ann Dunham’s friends talking about Ann enrolling in extension classes Aug. 1961 at Univ. of Washington.

on page 8 on online edition of article:
“In March, 1962, Stanley Ann Dunham moved from Honolulu to Seattle, Washington, where she enrolled as a full time student at the University of Washington for the spring quarter, which continued until June, 1962, and got her own apartment. She enrolled in classes and earned 10 credit hours that quarter.

Seattle Times journalist Jonathan Martin reports that some high school classmates recall visiting her and her young son alternately at the Laurelhurst student housing, then at a Capitol Hill apartment during the period that stretched from March 1962 to at least September 1962.”

It talks about Ann starting at Univ of Hawaii and dropping out after one semester. The next college reference was when BO was 2, and she enrolled at Univ. of Hawaii. Again, nothing was said about her being enrolled at Univ of Washington, much less living there and living in an apartment on Capitol Hill!!Hmmmm

“Even by the standards of 1961, she was young to be married. At 18, she dropped out of college after one semester, according to University of Hawaii records. When her friends back in Washington heard the news, “we were very shocked,” says Box, her high school friend.

Later on in article:
“S. Ann Dunham Soetoro
When her son was almost 2, Ann returned to college. Money was tight. She collected food stamps and relied on her parents to help take care of young Barack. She would get her bachelor’s degree four years later. In the meantime, she met another foreign student, Lolo Soetoro, at the University of Hawaii. (”It’s where I send all my single girlfriends,” jokes her daughter Soetoro-Ng, who also married a man she met there.)

In this article:
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/jun/01/barack_obamas_mother_more_just_kansas_girl/?print

“When she graduated, they moved to Hawaii, where she applied to a university and quickly fell in love with one of the few black students on campus”
“...The Dunham-Obama marriage failed within three years.
Obama returned to Kenya to pursue politics but became embittered by the tribal order.”
“In Hawaii, Dunham had re-enrolled at the university to study anthropology.”

Again, not a mention about the Univ of Washington at all in Ann Dunham’s life...which is very curious.

Those are just from a small sample of articles and excerpts I could find from “Dreams” but I thought I would post these now.
