Gladly!
Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! —Psalm 100:1

Psalm 100 is one of the great songs of thanksgiving in the Bible. It calls us to realize that we belong to God our Maker (vv.3-4), and to praise Him for His goodness, mercy, and truth (v.5).

During a recent reading, however, I was struck by a phrase that speaks of expressing thanks in a tangible, willing way: “Serve the Lord with gladness” (v.2). Many times my service to God is more grudging than glad. I do what I consider my duty, but I’m not happy about it.

Oswald Chambers put his finger on my unthankful attitude when he said: “The will of God is the gladdest, brightest, most bountiful thing possible to conceive, and yet some of us talk of the will of God with a terrific sigh—‘Oh well, I suppose it is the will of God,’ as if His will were the most calamitous thing that could befall us. . . . We become spiritual whiners and talk pathetically about ‘suffering the will of the Lord.’ Where is the majestic vitality and might of the Son of God about that!”

True thankfulness is more than being grateful for what we possess. It’s an attitude that permeates our relationship with the Lord so that we may serve Him with gladness and joy.

Then let us adore and give Him His right,
All glory and power, all wisdom and might,
All honor and blessing, with angels above,
And thanks never ceasing for infinite love. —Wesley

For the Christian, thanksgiving is not just a day but a way of life.

I’m doubting that anyone will be here before “After Turkey” but I saw the thread asking prayer for snugs’ dad and it is dated two days ago. Can anyone tell me what his status is? I know I’m mostly AWOL these days, but it’s a “crunchtime” for me this time of year. I do want to wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. God bless you, one and all.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

Thank you Father for the blessings given this day.
Help us to remember, Thou has shown us the way.
And give us strength to help those in need.
Never letting us forget Thy merciful deeds.
Keep us in Thy tender loving care.
Save us, O Lord, when we are in despair!
Give us grace as we walk through life.
Inspire us to seek our brothers amid the strife.
Victory in Thee will be our guiding star.
In courage we march not caring how far.
Now we ask for the most important thing.
Grant us salvation to escape death's sting.

I wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Many of us will celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and family this year. After the table is cleared, we'll start planning for a December full of holiday celebration. While we take time away from work and gather for holiday parties, it is my hope that each of us takes a moment to reflect and to really appreciate all the good things we have in our lives to be thankful for.

And, please remember to think about our service men and women who will not be able to spend the holidays with their friends and family because they are protecting our freedoms around the world. We all look forward to the day when every American can enjoy the holidays with friends and family, and in the meantime, we raise a glass to their service! Hooah!! May you have many blessings this Thanksgiving Holiday!
