Did anyone watch Hume's Special Report last night? Man, it is really depressing how elitist they have become. Charles Krauthammer in particular. His utter disdain for Sarah Palin, Joe the Plumber, and the common American citizen is fully out. He insulted Joe's definition of socialism, stating he would rather get his political advice from Fred Barnes than Joe the Plumber. Than he went into a talk about socialism, sounding extremely wonkish and basically stated the American public are ignorant not knowing the real definition of socialism and that Obama's tax plan is okay, not socialism. Just a total depressing turn-off.
I began voting Republican in ‘92...after years of being a liberal.
I do not watch election night coverage. I cannot take it. I go to bed early on that night.
I do remember watching more than I ever had in YEARS in 2000. But that was an exception. I figure with any volunteering, praying, and giving I’ve done, the work is now over and it is all in God’s hands. It is in His hands, anyway....
40% of anyone’s hard-earned wages.
That is the problem in a nut shell. A lot of this money wasn’t really wages and really wasn’t hard-earned.
“In God’s Hands”
one of the great rationalizations and cop-outs of all time.
It is in OUR hands, not God’s hands.
Leave work and on the way home, stop by the high school and vote.
After voting, go home. Pour a glass of Bailey's Irish Creame and down it.
Go to bed and wait until the next day to see the results. I can't take the pressure anymore.
ding, ding, ding .. We have a winner.
Folks inside the beltway are as inbred politically as banjo boy from the movie Deliverence was inbred genetically ...
It makes them smarter than us ... don'cha know.
Did you hear this last night? I sure as hell didn’t. Read the posts on this thread. Everyone - besides you - saw and heard the same thing I did.
As I've stated previously, God will be at work in the outcome of the election to bring it into conformity to His purpose ... but He won't pick and choose the outcome any more than He would the outcome of a High School football game - the two events are of about equal importance in the overall cosmic end game.
As Lincoln said (and Sarah Palin pointed out), the issue isn't "is God on our side" it's "are we on God's side"
I have to agree to some extant with both of you. I am a firm believer of God helps those who help themselves. God requires that we must make an effort and not just sit on our collective arses. However, at some point - after whatever you do, whatever happens is in the hands of God.
I clicked the link and read teh column. Excellent column! Unfortunately, the past few days I have not heard this from the man himself while he is on the panel. It is doom and gloom, smashing out at Palin and Joe the Plumber.
I see that Krauthammer’s article today said he is going to vote for McCain. I didn’t bother to read the article, because I’ve been pretty disappointed with him since the debates started. This last debate was the final straw. During the pundit analysis after the 3rd debate, I got the distinct impression that Krauthammer and the rest of them believed that the majority of American people are not bright enough to see past the slick exterior of a candidate. Sure there’s people who will vote for Obama based on appearances and skin color, but it really pi$$ed me off hearing them describe the whole electorate that way. Many of the pundits said all Obama had to do was “look Presidential” to win the debate. I took that in a very demeaning way, because it takes more than looks for a candidate to get my vote. Not all voters are shallow.
Krauthammer is publicly backing McCain.
I like Charles, and I don’t want to be unkind, but I fear he is suffering from PWTS (Pretty Woman Turndown Syndrome). Again, not to be unkind, but in my experience, guys who couldn’t get a date with a good-looking girl if their life depended on it when they were kids tend to hold bitter resentments when they get older.
“...I personally feel it is immoral and repugnant for the government to lay claim to almost 40% of anyone’s hard-earned wages.”
I saw the show too and couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
I agree with you, but if it is not socialism then what is it when the government - at a combined level - confiscates more than half of one’s labor? What would that a$$hat call it?
What is it called when government regulates capital to the degree it does? IIRC, the government required Fannie and Freddie to hold a portfolio of 50% subprime mortgages. The government required banks to lend to subprime borrowers. The politicians require many things of capital that help them get reelected.
What does krauthammer call it when the government controls labor and capital to the unbelievable degree that it currently does? How about when the government decides that the product of our exhalation is a pollutant?
What does krauthammer call it when the federal government achieves this control by operating unbounded by our Constitution?
I call it tyranny.
Will we unclog it and flush or will we let it overflow?
My guess is the people have chosen the latter.
In 1978, Krauthammer quit medical practice to direct planning in psychiatric research for the Jimmy Carter administration, and began contributing to The New Republic magazine. During the presidential campaign of 1980, Krauthammer served as a speech writer to Vice President Walter Mondale.
