That’s a cute sentiment, but not very accurate. Here in New Jersey all the guys with callouses are unionized so theyr’e in the pocket of the big government, pro-socialism liberals.

Also, Barry used the line "Bush came in with a surplus, now we have a $500 Billion deficit" line again. Why didn't McLame turn to Barry, and say, "Senator Obama is correct. A Republican House and a Republican Senate did balance the budget as promised, but what my friend doesn't seem to understand is that in 2000 we had the Clinton Dot Com bubble burst, which was followed by the 9/11 attacks and the War on Terrorism. I suppose if we were willing to sacrifice 3,000 innocent American lives each year to domestic terrorist attacks, we could have a balanced budget today. Maybe Mr. Obama would agree to that, but not my Administration."
I think McCain tried to get in a lot of “stuff” that a whole lot of us wanted him to bring up. Due to the time restraints I think he didnt get a whole lot of time to really elaborate on them. Perhaps he wanted to bring them up, leave them hanging out there and have the folks follow up and ask questions about these issues. Obama kept trying to get the spotlite off of anything that weren’t his talking points...economy, healthcare...
Yep, that's one of the things that changed my opinion on him. IMHO, it's not a "flip-flop" if you try one thing, it doesn't work, so you improve on it or try something else.
The only thing that I think he missed on was the 700 Billion Bailout package. If he stands up and says "Look, I've talked to my constituents and they don't like this bill, so I need to oppose it", then the election is a done deal for McCain, I think.
Makes me wonder if
1) He didn't realize the political ramifications.
2) He realized the political ramifications, and didn't care.
3) He realized the political ramifications, but had some other knowledge that trumped them - ie, he did the right thing.
I dunno, maybe I'm thinking it through too much.
Yeah, They really need to get a different discussion panel. Neither me nor my husband could bear to listen to them last night, especially that woman! Where did they find her? msnbc?! We came straight to the FR site to hear some positive feed back. We were wondering if they were actually watching the same debate we were! SAD - TRULY SAD!
Yeah there was one of the "undecided" ladies in the front row that was just waaaaaay too smooth. I mean, I wouldn't expect the average undecided voter to be a babbling idiot, but she hit all of the Dem talking points far too crisply - particularly for an "undecided voter" who had "just been swayed to vote Obama by the debate".

I’m seeing all this style over substance talk from the talking heads and newspaper writers. What gives?
I actually thought Obama made a big mistake by mentioning that people were calling him a terrorist. That might cause some questions to form in a lot of the minds of the uninformed.
I think McCain only won if you are a Rush listener or a Freeper and are able to mentally flesh out some of what he was trying to say. If you are not, then you don’t get some of the points he was trying to make.
McCain’s single biggest shortcomming is that he bucks Conservative philosophy.
It means he has to screw up first. Fortunately he is open minded enough that he will reverse himself.
I do see signs that he is beginning to think the the whole Campaign Finanace Reform thing is a flop and that he is beggining to realize that he was a tool of the MSM, not its darling.

That was about half way thru, when it got boring.
I missed most of the debate due to other obligations, but tried hard to catch up on FR’s thread (and even a couple of PUMA sites, which are really fun to read now).
It sounds like “Senator Government” was one great zinger. The line about “I am not George Bush; if you wanted to run against him, you should have run four years ago” was another. Finally, it sounded like he brushed off the Warren Buffett name dropping by bringing the focus back to “Joe the Plumber”.
What were some of the other really great lines? I’d love to see a list, partial or complete!
I thought I read that McCain used a great line to slap Obambi down on his line about being 8 years old when Ayers was on trial, with some question about how old Obambi was in 2001 when Ayers said that “they hadn’t done enough” to kill more Americans in their terrorist heyday, but maybe that was wishful thinking?

Does anyone else get the feeling that McCain is avoiding going for the kill on points he should be able to use effectively because he wants to maintain his viability/collegiality when he returns to his real job as a Senator?
I saw the very same thing and the fact that the MSM is so biased drives me insane. grrr
I didn’t get to see all of it, but what I saw was wonderful, and the comments on the websites were priceless! Some DU’ers were pretty discouaged, I think, particularly with all the “I agree with John” comments. They might be losing the rosy sheen off their glasses. But the most fun comments were on FR and the PUMA sites; what a gas!
I guess Senator Uhuhbahuhma may have overused his “aaaaaaaannnnnnndddddd” time-out device, LOLOL!
FOX is just trying too hard to belong to the popular girls’ club. They’ve swung so far towards the Chosen One in their effort to be liked, they’ve lost a lot of credibility with a lot of folks. On the other hand, Murdoch is supposedly pretty chummy these days with Hillary, so maybe there’s another “surprise” coming soon.
“I agree with John” Is his best line. If he appears to be so similar to McCain, then the identity politics will push people over the edge
