Unfair? Get a different card. Vote with your feet. This is NOT a socialist country - yet.

Well said. I’ve closed my accounts and cut up the cards save for one. I kept that one because the company offered to drop the APR from 13% to 4% if I agreed to stay with them. Negotiate with them. They’ll offer you a better rate if they want to keep you...BUT keep the outstanding balances down. They’ve jacked up the rates before. They can do it again.

Do as I do.
Carry an Amex Gold card.
You have to pay off the balance every month and there is NO interest whatsoever.
People with 22 Visas and Mastercards they use and just make the minimum payments deserve the messes they get into for their poor judgnment. I have no sympathy for them.

But judging by the abuses clearly rampant in the financial community, a socialist country may be an improvement.
There is something instinctively bad about predatory interest when ALL the issuing banks seem to march in lockstep.
To add insult to injury, if I have a dispute with an obviously crooked bank or business and refuse to pay, another bank whom I have no problem with can arbitrarily jack up my rates. The same bank that issued bad mortgages to illegals, and expects me to make up its losses.
I would be happy if the RICO laws applied.

Problem is you can't vote with your feet with predatory credit card companies. I just lowered the boom on one of the worst (Advanta) for trying to rip off my wife, who's a responsible small business owner. She had a longstanding balance on her business account at 7.99%, but last month this criminal company jacked her rate up to 35.08% without any prior notice or chance to opt out, as required by federal law. We ended up doing a balance transfer onto our family credit account (we have excellent credit BTW), closed the business account, and filed formal complaints against Advanta to the State Attorney General, the Comptroller of the Currency, the FDIC, the FTC, and the BBB.
The bottom line is that the game is so rigged against the customer that if one credit card company screws you then all of them will through universal default.

Actually, yes, it is.
