CHEESE GRITS CASSEROLE

4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. salt
1 c. grits
1 stick butter
8 oz. pkg. Velveeta cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
2 or 3 drops Tabasco sauce
2 eggs
Milk

Cook grits in water with salt. Remove from heat. Add butter, cheese, garlic and Tabasco. Put eggs in cup and beat. Add milk to eggs to make 1 cup and beat well. Add to grits mixture. Bake in greased 2 quart casserole at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Serves 6.

I love this recipe - the grits can be cut in squares, and served as appetizers, as a carb side dish, and it’s good hot or cold.

Sound like a great recipe! Those casseroles are popular for brunches, etc. I hear. Lots of folks hate grits and I don’t know if they’ve tried them or just have their minds made up that they don’t like them.

I think many have their ideas about grits gleaned from some watery. tasteless mess dunked on their breakfast order plate..
I love cheese grits..This one looks like a winner.

I saved that recipe and I'm gonna try it. I'll let you know if I succeed. I should be able to make it. And.... I’m gonna use some of my Falls Mills grits.

We used to have to drive up to Belvidere to get the grits at the mill. It was a nice trip in the fall since they had picnic tables beside the pond below the mill. The grits are ground using a water wheel so I guess you could call them a green industry. The Farmers Market about a quarter mile away on the other side of Flint River stocks them now so we save some gas.
