Any object that physical size that took off at that speed would move enough air to create a sonic boom that would shake houses hundreds of miles away. A fish swimming in water is not aware of the water, because he is immersed in it.
If the object could use technology that creates a force field around it...it wouldn't displace any air when it moved.

That’s one most likely explanation.
Would you consider that the same as ionizing/plasmatizing the air in a thin layer around it?
