How many lawyers have you run across that actually use Esq.? I've probably run across a couple in the last 25 years.
I have a law degree (though I’ve never practiced law). When I joined the Board of a non-profit run by some people whose native language isn’t English, they listed me on their website as “[name], Esq.”, thinking it was “correct”. I was horrified and insisted it be removed immediately. No way do I want anyone bumping into that and thinking that I must have asked to be listed as “Esq.”. It’s utterly pretentious.
