In case you don't recognize it, that ugly dark thing is a Gypsy Moth caterpillar. Around here, cars parked under oak trees are rained on by bug poop as the caterpillars devastate our century-old trees.
Good health and appetite to this wasp, which is not actually eating the caterpillar; she's converting it into a subway car: destination, the wasp maternity ward.
I was watching a thing yesterday on fire ants, their migrations and survival, and how sturdy they are.
Seems certain flies in SA are the answer, as they lay one egg in a fire ant. To make a long story short, the dead fire ants are taken to the ant graveyard, just outside the hill, and when the new flies hatch...antnihilation!
