He couldn’t be stopped from spending money, even when we needed it for the bills. It was a power thing, in addition to his just basically being a spender. I should have dumped it on him years earlier :-).

My first husband was like that, but he had a gambling problem. When he was flush, he’d buy me things. When he gambled away the rent, utilities and grocery money, he’d take the things and sell or pawn them.

Of course, I was so naive, I had no clue why he was doing those things. About eight years ago, I found out why by accident.

He’s a spender, too. Likes nice things. Of course, now that we’re no longer married, he quit his drinking, smoking and chasing, but still gambles, though now, he sets a limit on it. Too smart too late!
