Walking with Lucy
Walking in the Autumn morning with Lucy
Beagle nose snuffling through the leaves
The distant caw of the crows and the flash of red
As a cardinal rushes to meet its mate.
The leaves shower down in lazy spirals
Coming to rest on the parched earth.
Peaceful and quiet, walking along
Lucy spies a squirrel hurrying with its acorn.
A chipmunk stops to sniff the cool air
And scurries down the garden path.
The sun glints through the branches of the great oaks
That line the street.
Taking it all in, realizing how wonderful the world really is
And how wonderful to share it with Lucy.
