Figuring out whether and how two people not on the same screen are related is, uh, difficult at best in that website. :’)

I don't think it can be done from the website (you can sketch out a a chart and I used to know how to figure it out the old way), so I carefully picked through that pedigree, entered all the relevant names in my genealogy program which has a relationship calculator, and if I entered it all correctly and if the data is correct, came up with Sarah is my 9th cousin once removed two different ways and 10th cousin once removed a third way, not real close.

Basically you have to find a common direct ancestor you share with Sarah or any of the others listed there from their pedigrees, work that line back down to the person of interest, work your line back down from the same common ancestor to you, then you can figure it out or have somebody do it for you. There are various (confusing to me) explanations of how to do it on the web, don't have any links for those.

I am related to Sarah by at least 8 different New England lines, including this Newcomb one. This is so cool!

After being inspired to do some research by a common surname I found through this thread, I was finally able to establish 2 kinships with Gov. Sarah Heath Palin (through the Willards and the Dunsters). One of the things that I initially admired about her was the lack of any Eastern Establishment background in her bio, but ironically I found that we're both related to three Harvard presidents.

And as for those people who don't think genealogy has much relevance, I tend to think that there is much more to it than just loose chromosomal ties and faded lessons passed down through the generations. The more I research it, the more I find uncanny coincidences of people and place.

The people of the Mountain West, like Sarah and myself, are the leading edge of the westward migrations. Our ancestors were the most adventuresome and stubbornly independent of many generations, first in England and then in this country.

My husbands side of the family is direct descendants of Daniel Boone.
