That’s so interesting. I took a minute to read up on mangrove forests & what they do. Hurricane Andrew must have been some force to flatten whole groves like that.

Actually the wind strips the leaves and some species of mangroves cannot recover. We have the same thing going on on Charlotte Harbor. Check out aerials before Charley and now.
The South FL landscape of trees, groves was decimated
in the Homestead area.
I would stand at an intersection I’d known for
25 years, and be so disoriented by the changed
look, it would take me 5 mins. to figure out where
I was.
That was one of the saddest, most depressing sights ..
the hundreds and hundreds of stripped, mangled, sliced
off ugly trees of what once was pastoral, tall and green
.. especially way out west in the country/Redlands.
That kind of damage takes 10-15 years to heal, if it’s
not completely destroyed .. as in the West Coast
mangroves.
