I remember those days :-) but I’d always get a spanking if I got caught swimming in the street because of the snakes in Louisiana. I’d take my whopping though because swimming in the flooded streets was a kid’s dream come true.
I have family scattered about Louisiana. My Mom and her parents were born there. Most have all passed on now, but there’s still a sprinkling of cousins floating about. We should have been worried about snakes and gators when playing in the street water, we had a water canal at the far end that I know for a fact had those critters living in it. Shoot, I’m lucky to be alive. My baby crib had lead paint on it and no one ever heard of car seats, seat belts or bicycle helmets back in those days, :-))
