As each flag passed before the reviewing stand where Hitler sat, each flag dipped in salute....
...all EXCEPT for the United States of America. The flag bearer (whose name escapes me) said “This flag bows before no earthly king or potentate”. And, as far as I know, the US flag has NEVER dipped before an Olympic reviewing stand to this day.
