Do they pigs of themselves while eating?

Oesy, I don’t feed them - they come for the seed that the birds drop from the feeders above. And, rattlers and king snakes hide near the feeders - (as do road-runners and hawks), looking for a bird or two for their dinner.

Savedbygrace, I have never eaten javelina. It is illegal to kill one, here in AZ - so I don’t imagine I will ever have the pleasure of dining on one.

Luv, I wish I could have shown you guys some coyotes while you were here (or the bobcat who occasionally shows up at my sliding doors to the patio).

Amy, javelina have very poor eyesight, but an excellent sense of smell. I just stay away from them.

Here’s a story that is worth sharing: Last year, my six year old grandaughter was sitting on my lap, and I was showing her pictures on the computer of javelina. She said, “What do they eat, Grammy?” I told her mostly cactus, seeds and plants. She said, “Unh, unh! I don’t THINK so, Grammy. Look at those teeth. Those are not the teeth of herbivores! Those are carnivor teeth!”

I told her that they probably eat ‘some’ meat occasionally, but their prefered diet is grain.

She whispered in my ear, “I know what they eat, Grammy!!” I said, “What, honey?” Her whole little body shuddered, and she said, “THEY EAT LITTLE GIRLS!”
