#775. “highway 83 towns...not 83 towns”
Hopefully it will stay dry for a while and let everyone dig out.
Hang in there!
How are yall doing? I saw some nasty looking bands around CC.
Yes, was pleased to see the coverage reporting how hard the border patrol was working. I recall stories post Hurricane Andrew where a whole lot of immigrants received “replacement” green cards. In broken English, many said, “lost green card.” In those days, many permanent records were lost in the storm, including vaccination records, etc. It was a mess.
We’re fine. Other than a few momentary touchdowns from a little tornado here and there, damages are almost non-existant.
Not enough rain up here.
Looks like the rain bands are coming up Hwy 77, then taking I-37 to San Antonio.
Yall need the rain?
I hear Harlingen really caught it. Anyone hear from RVGTx?
Cindy, I agree what a mess.
Goodbye, Dolly (the little turtle than would not leave.)
Anyone hear from RGVTx?
See #727
We could stand some more rain, sun is out at the moment.
Still pretty breezy.
I have lights but all but basic cable is out and my land modem keeps going in and out too. I work from home and I'm not allowed to use Wireless so I'm working when I can. I usually keep the tv on for company. I leave it on the home improvement channel. Today.....there is some weird stuff on tv now. Some talk show this morning with a guy with an accent and a "money" man. They were talking about Obama and how stocks would go up and the economy would be better so it really didn't matter about him raising taxes. I had to mute or scream. This afternoon...the soap operas...they can talk and do that stuff on tv now? Wow....and the commercials..is nothing private anymore?
Dolly waves flood island beach
Mayor says berm protected other areas from hurricane's rough surf

Dauphin Island closed the new west end public beach after waves related to Hurricane Dolly flooded the area, officials said Wednesday.
At Dauphin Island, about six inches of water covered the parking lot and recreational areas Wednesday afternoon at the public beach located at the western end of Bienville Boulevard.
RGVTx reporting in.
We survived with only tree damage. Some trees hit the house but only bent a bit of gutter. We are doing the limbo to get to and from our home. It was bad here. Didn’t think it was ever going to stop. Power just came back on in the last half hour. We are so thankful! Cell phone service is sporadic and my only means of internet connection. Dish TV is still working except all local channels are off air. I discovered it doesn’t matter if you have cable or dish neither work when the power goes out...LOL!
Going to try to catch up on the thread. Thanks to all who kept us in your thoughts and prayer.
CD, I don't know about looting, because we're still without power. One of our employee's made it up from Brownsville, he said they were in pretty good shape down there, but there was talk about the water rising from the drainage into the Rio.
Mercedes is underwater and the expressway is closed, I hear.
McAllen is pretty torn up, hubby has gone out for gas for the gens and said there was a lot of damage. It wouldn't surprise me if some fools were grabbing stuff.
All through the night we listened to KURV 710 am. They opened up the lines for people to exchange information, and it was inspiring to hear how positive people were. Also people were helping others, and that's always a nice thing to hear when things are so iffy.
There were some funny stories and some things that just made you mad. Someone around Mercedes said they were on top of their house, as the water was so high. The DJ got the emergency managers on the phone, and asked them to go help them. They said, “They should have thought of that and gone to a shelter. We don't go out in storms like this” Sheeeesh. Some kind soul got their boat out and retrieved them.
There was a guy in a motel room in the dark with no food or water. Even the vending machine wouldn't work because it took electricity. Poor guy, I hope he got some food.
The funniest one was a guy who suggested someone call the Air Force and drop a bomb on Dolly to see if they couldn't get it moving!
Who would have ever thought you could get such great entertainment for the price of three AA batteries?
Kudo’s to KURV. Everyone said they were a lifeline..and they were.
Yeah..we are no Katrina. Life will be back to normal soon. Talk about funny.. I was watching from my covered porch. One of my neighbors decided to go to his mail box. He was wearing swimming goggles. Another had their garage open and a teenage boy was laying in the trunk , using the trunk door for an umbrella....oh well...they were probably watching me too... standing outside seeing how strong the wind was:’)
Swim googles! Why didn't we think of that? We were trying to fill the gens at 3 am with one of us holding on to the house, and to each other. We couldn't see a thing. I'm so adding googles to the kit.
Even under the covered porch, we were still doing the Jim Cantore dance of derangement.
We're still without power. The CPL crews are out working like mad. 1/2 block away an entire big power pole went down and took the lines with it. They're trying to get the lines up now.
But, I see a line of storms coming in from the south, so it looks like here we go again. No hot bath tonight, I guess. :(
Darn it. Prayers for him and for his family. Really, also for all those guys on the ‘other side.’ They don’t have our resources nor the government response we do.
You didn’t get the memo? No showers:’)
