My first car was a 1972 Pontiac Parisienne my dad gave to me in 1975, I have no idea how much I paid for gas but I do remember driving it for weeks without having to stop and put gas in it..

My first car was a 72 Mercury Montego. It cost me $350 in about 1983. Gas must have been in the 70 to 80 cent range.

‘54 Chevrolet Pick-up I traded it title up for a ‘60 AMC Rambler
My dad didn’t have the patience to teach me 3 in the tree and the Rambler was automatic. the bad thing about the rambler is the color was titty pink as all my friends told me.

1974 Volvo POC (in 1986). I forget the gas price, but the car had a leak somewhere between the gas tank and the engine and it worked out to about 8 MPG. I was only interested in going into town to work or to the part store for beer so I didn’t worry about it.

The car “committed suicide”... the steering failed on a winding mountain road.

1958 Chevy Apache school bus converted to a camper. I have no idea what the mileage was or what the cost of gas was back then (1981).

I do know that it saved me a lot of drunk driving tickets because I would sleep it off inside.

In 1966 I bought a 1961 Falcon (a smoker)...gas was $.30 and the POS cost me $500. I was making $74/wk. Ins. cost more than $300/yr.

1952 Jeep CJ3A. In 1978/79.

Gas was around $0.55 per gallon, I think. I could fill its 10 gallon tank (under the driver’s seat) from almost empty for around $5.

1961 Chevy BelAir, straight six. Big enough to have a party inside, running on bias ply tires and gas was usually around $0.199 per gallon. The station attendant pumped the gas, checked the oil, and cleaned the windshield.

A 1962 Olds 4-dr - I inherited it in 1967 when my father died - gas was$0.30/ galon. I sold it and bought a 1967 VW bug - I gave the bug away in 1977 to the VOA.

I've saw nearly the same car for sale recently for $24000!!!

My first car was a truck. A 1957 Ford half ton. Piece of crap, didn't last long. After three Fords that were garbage I swore off of them. Gas was 50 cents a gallon, and that was in rural Alaska in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Not bad, considering gas in Anchorage was 47.9 cents. Cheapest gas I ever saw was 39.9 in California in 1973, right after I joined the Marines.

The 66 Bonne and 66 Catalina I truly believe were 2 of the most beautiful cars ever built, and the convert’s were breathtaking.
