It’s just not realistic to pretend that I am carrying every time I go out in public with the misses and the rugrats. There are many places where it is just not workable. I realize that I should stay clear of such places but I dislike the idea that I should need to in my own country.

Once again...I understand. And once again....we must be wise.
It's simple in my mind. I carry when I think I need to carry.
Fortunately in my case....I live in a very rural area. Very low crime rates. But I'm not 75 miles from a big city with big city problems.
So, I attempt to make the best decision. That's all I can do.

There's only a handful of other places when, as mere peon not an agent of the state, that you can. Switzerland maybe, but even they have anti concealed carry laws, and too many muslims. Don't know about permits to carry. Of course they also have and can carry assault rifles around with them.
