A person in NY wouldn’t actually need running water or electricity. My grandparents didn’t have those things and they had a fair size family. We’re all going to be reevaluating our needs and requirements if this oil thing goes on much longer.

“A person in NY wouldn’t actually need running water or electricity.”

oh really?

“My grandparents didn’t have those things and they had a fair size family.”

well...I’m sure my grandparents too - but things were different then.
They lived on a farm.
I’m sure they had a well they could go to.
I don’t know how to cook without electricity.
They had an outhouse.
They only bathed once a week in cold water.

We don’t have a well (well we do - but we can’t hand pump water out of it, and we don’t get water when electricity is out)
We don’t have a fireplace -or a brick oven fueled by fire - or a way to cook with fire.

I know what you’re getting at- but practically speaking - I’m not going to be able to take care of all these kids this winter without running water and electricity.
