It varied. After the Romans finished up with their conquest of Britain (there are clues that they’d planned to finish up in what is now Scotland, and had a small presence in Ireland) they generally had two or three legions stationed there.

Whoops. By “stationed there” I meant Britain, not Caerleon. [blush]
