I think Hawaiian BBQ is on the sweet side but that is okay with me... lotsa pineapple, you know.:o)

That ain't Hawaiian then. Kalua pig is flavored with hardwood smoke, sea salt and a touch of banana leaf. Lomi Lomi Salmon is smoked salmon and salt and onion and tomato all mixed together and served as a salad. Poi (day old poi, slightly on the sour side) on the side.

Lau Lau is salt butterfish, pig and kalo (Taro) leaf wrapped in Ti leaves and then steamed.....salty and slightly bitter.

Dessert is the only slightly sweet thing; Haupia, which is a coconut custard....with little sugar.

Malahinis go to luaus and the locals apply generous amounts of Mai Tais to lessen the shock to their palates.

Mai Tais will lessen a lot of things, huh?

Well, it all sounds good.

I remember that line from the Hukilau song, “... where the lau lau is the kau kau at the old luau...:o)”
