You don’t need to do any more diagnostics.
A tip... I think when you call the vets, don’t just describe symptoms, tell them what you want to do, that you think it’s time. As long as you call them with a problem to solve, they’ll try to solve it thinking that’s what you want. Don’t wait for them to suggest putting her to sleep, because they’re very reluctant to do that as long as an owner wants to try, they’re trying to make the people happy, and owners who aren’t ready don’t react well to a vet wanting to kill their pet.
Thanks. The Mrs. has just been wanting to ask them if they think Abby is in pain. But there’s no way they can know that, especially without seeing her.
My Mama had a dog, Charlie Brown, that was getting really old, and was almost blind. The next time she came up to visit me, my brother took Charlie to be put down, then put him in the extra freezer outside to wait for Mama to get home so she could bury him. She knew it was time, she just didn't want to be the one to take him to the Vet.
We’re not putting the cat in the freezer!
And, quite frankly, if she dies at home, we’ll bury her out back next to Benny. But if we take her to the vet, we’ll let them deal with the remains.
I didn't think you would. ;o)
It's gonna be tough, no matter what, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing, and have done everything for her that you possibly could. You can feel better knowing that.
Is it time to go home yet?
Long past it, actually.
Aye
Still another hour to sit here and stare blankly at the screen.
I mean ‘work’, yeah, that stuff.
What a week. Crazy busy. Mostly good, but dang - ize tired.
Wait. Hold on. Who are those young men in the pics???? They can’t be the *boys* ...!!!...
Oh thank goodness. That turned out to be a turrible episode of The Office... just turrible.
My first thought was, "Well, that would save the cost of the vet..."
LOL! Yep, Charlie had already assumed room temperature, THEN got put in the freezer. Mama buried him back behind the house at our Fish Camp.
We ended up bringing Cartman home, and I brought Logan and Zulu home, partly because I wanted to bury them, but partly because there was a significant fee for them to dispose of them. They have to pay to use a crematorium in town, so it’s not a non-cost. It was like another hundred bucks.
Just something to consider so you aren’t caught off guard. I brought a blanket and had them wrap the body in that, and I buried them right in it.
I’ve already priced it out. It’ll be cheaper than back surgery for me.
But thanks, it’s good to think this through. I have an appointment at 9:30 in the morning. Mrs. and Luke didn’t go tonight, but they’ll be gone before I leave to take her.
I hope it goes easy for her and you, and you end up feeling at peace about it... I know it hasn’t been easy.
Thanks.
Drat, Corin, we’re so sorry; we’ll be thinking of you tomorrow. OB & LSA
