In ‘63 I took an art appreciation class at UAH as an elective. One of the styles that I had trouble appreciating was surrealism. I asked the professor how a person could tell great art from bad and he indicated that people like himself were born with the knowledge and that folks like me just had to take their word or forever remain an uncouth redneck. I didnt ask his couthness anymore questions for the rest of the class and managed to get a C while preserving the sanguinity of my neck.
In spite of my couth deprived condition, I enjoyed the presentation.
I totally understand, fewz. I majored in Art Education at Kent State University in the 60’s. And, Surrealism was one of my most difficult courses. And, if you didn’t like what the prof liked - forget it - (that’s where I learned the positive effects and outcome of ‘faking it’.) LOL!!!
Hahaha. I had a similar problem not “getting it” re some philosophers. They failed to indoctrinate us:).
