The Vogons wrote horrific poetry.
Like what one finds in Highschool English class these days.
And the line from Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is something similar to the slightly quoted line I put.

On May 10th in 1869 the first transcontinental railroad was completed by
the driving of a symbolic golden spike at Promontory Summit in The Utah Territory.
Today, Promontory Summit is a National Historic Site managed by the National Park Service.

Happy Golden Spike Day!

Avocado & Shrimp Spinach Salad

1 Chile (red)
1 clove Garlic (chopped)
1 Lime
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1/2 pound Shrimp (cooked)
1/4 pound Spinach (fresh)
2 Avocados

Wash and zest the lime; set the zest aside, then juice the lime. Set aside.

Slice the chile in half, discard the seeds and stem, then chop the chile up.

Put the chile in a bowl along with the garlic, lime juice and zest, oil and soy sauce. Mix, then add the shrimp and let them marinate. If you're not in a hurry, set it in the fridge for an hour or two.

Remove the shrimp, set aside. Wash and peel the avocados, remove and discard the pits, then slice. Toss the avocado pieces in the dressing, then set aside. Wash and dry the spinach leaves, then toss them in the sauce. Put the spinach leaves in a serving bowl or on a serving platter, then distribute the shrimp and sliced pieces of the avocado on top of the salad.

Serves 4

Happy "National Shrimp Day".

Wow! Do they make those in gallon size? LOL

Survived the Sat before Mother’s day. I am officially out of roses—230—out of hanging baskets—@ 300—out of geraniums. Out of go juice! Things should slowly get back to normal now. Whew!

Sounds like you deserve a gallon size! ;^ )

Since you survived the big holiday, maybe you will be able to stop by more often.

Hope so! I’ll have to do alot of catching up! I am getting too old for this, and the earlier Easter falls, the longer and harder the season is. :)

Just A Mom

A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office,
was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation.

She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.

"What I mean is, " explained the recorder,
"do you have a job or are you just a ...?"

"Of course I have a job," snapped the woman.

"I'm a Mom."

"We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation,
'housewife' covers it,"
Said the recorder emphatically.

I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself
in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall.
The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,
efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like,
"Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar."

"What is your occupation?" she probed.

What made me say it? I do not know.
The words simply popped out.
"I'm a Research Associate in the field of
Child Development and Human Relations."

The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in m midair and
looked up as though she had not heard right.

I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words.
Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,
in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.

"Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest,
"just what you do in your field?"

Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice,
I heard myself reply,
"I have a continuing program of research,
(what mother doesn't)
In the laboratory and in the field,
(normally I would have said indoors and out).
I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family)
and already have four credits (all daughters).
Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,
(any mother care to disagree?)
and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it).
But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers
and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money."

There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she
completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.

As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career,
I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3.
Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model,
(a 6 month old baby) in the child development program,
testing out a new vocal pattern.
I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy!
And I had gone on the official records as someone more
distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mom."

Motherhood!

What a glorious career!
Especially when there's a title on the door.

Does this make grandmothers
"Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations"?

And great grandmothers
"Executive Senior Research Associates"?
I think so!!!

I also think it makes Aunts
"Associate Research Assistants"!

A Special Angel

Up in heaven a child was ready to be born.
The child asked God,
"I know you are sending me to earth tomorrow,
but how can I survive there?
I am so small and helpless."

God Replied, "I have chosen
a special angel for you there.
She will love you and take care of you."

"here in heaven, Lord,
I don't do anything but sing and smile.
What will I do on Earth?
I won't know how to sing the songs down there."

"Your angel will sing for you," God replied.
"and she'll teach you how to sing, too.
And you'll learn to laugh as well as smile.
Your angel and I will take care of that."

"But how will I understand what people
say to me? I don't know a single word
of the language they speak!"

"Your angel will say the sweetest things
you will ever hear, and she will teach you,
word by word, how to speak the language."

"And when I want to talk to You....?"

"Your angel will gently place your little
hands together and teach you how.
That's the simplest language of all.
It's called Prayer.

"Who will protect me there, God?"

"Your angel is soft and gentle,
but if something threatens you,
there is not stronger force on Earth
than the power she'll use to defend you.

"I'll be sad not getting to see You anymore."

"I will always be next to you,
even though you can't see Me.
And your angel will teach you
the way to come back to Me if you stray."

Then it was time to go.
Excited voices could be heard from Earth,
anticipating the childs's arrival.
In a hurry, the babe asked softly,

"Oh God, if I must go now,
please tell me my angel's name!"

And God replied,
You will call your angel....
Mommy"

~Wishing Amy's Place A Happy Mother's Day~

Pino...”Remember”

~Remembering My Mother’s Love~

I remember, I remember, as I sit in quiet mood,
Scenes of childhood, tastes of Summer,
What a pleasant interlude!

I recall with certain odors, simple pleasures of the past,
Mother baking, Mother singing,
Times I hoped would always last.

Mother’s love was like a blanket, shielding me from chill of night,
Gentle touching, soft caresses,
Weaving charms against my fright.

I remember, I remember, Mother always stood with me,
Could I love her as she loved me?
Could I love her endlessly?

Quiet moments fill with music, lullabies my Mother cooed,
As my days grow long and darkened,
These are now my dreamlife food.

A Mother Is ...

A mother is a messenger, who bears a precious gift,
And even in the wrapping tissue we find some gems to sift.
The more we learn of life, the more we stop and stare,
For how can such a wondrous thing be conjured out of air?

A mother is a vessel, a type of cooking pot,
Whose love provides the warmth so that it doesn’t get too hot.
And she provides the nutrients, our flesh is of her soil,
And when the child is born it’s she who does the toil,

Of cleaning it, and feeding it, and teaching it to smile,
A small reward to mother for her efforts all the while.
A mother is a garden spot, where God instills a spark,
A holy flame to kindle for the world’s encroaching dark.

For every child’s a candle, sent to fill the world with light,
And mother is the shielded hand that saves it for the night.
A mother does the work of God in bringing forth a child,
And Godly patience helps her to prevent its running wild.

We recognize her efforts with some flowers and a card,
Oblivious to the challenges she faced, and it was hard,
To make a sterling citizen from the plans placed in her head,
She had to compromise a bit, ‘cause she got us instead.
