Apple didn’t use some of that seed money from Microsoft offered in the late 1990’s to come up with better keyboards such as Microsoft’s excellent split-key ergonomic keyboards.

The money thing has already been shown false. Aside from that, as a touch typist I can't stand the split-key "ergonomic" keyboards. I wasn't too sure about Apple's aluminum keyboards at first, but I have been pleasantly surprised. Not only is it nice to type on, but Apple brought that old beloved solid feel back to OEM keyboards that had been missing for so long.

I made the mistake of getting used to one, and now I can't stand normal keyboards. I have kind of big hands, and love my Microsoft monstrosity of a split key keyboard. I think they called it a "natural" or something. I hope I can still find another when it dies. Regular keyboards feel cramped and don't have a rest for my palms. I can still use them, but they're not comfortable. Somehow, your hands get used to typing either way, so I can type about equally fast on either kind, and can go back and forth touch typing without difficulty. My hands still remember regular keyboards, I just don't like them any more.
