That is the sweetest thing....how marvelous is His works!
Nothing makes me happier than watching the birds making their nests. I was telling Meg those pretty Easter bluebirds are building in their bluebird house again and have been so busy carrying their little beaks just full of ‘stuff’. They have built several years now in that house. Two families per summer!
Yes, indeed! I love watching nature unfold in my own backyard. :-)
I am hoping that this time the jays won't be quite so aggressively protective of their nest as they were the first time they decided to set up housekeeping in my lemon tree. That was before I started hand feeding the jays and I felt like I was taking my life in my hands going out into the back yard. It's quite unnerving to have an angry jay strafing you every time you go out the door! I was counting the days until the little ones left the nest and I could have my yard back again.
But I don't think it will be as bad this time. Both of the parents know me and Chachi and are used to coming to me for peanuts. In fact, a year ago the male (I think - I am still not sure which is which) brought his new mate to me and showed her how to take peanuts from my hand. They both have been little beggars ever since.
The only problem with them building the nest in the backyard is, I feel responsible for them and worry about them and will worry over the babies until I see that they are able to take care of themselves. But it is worth it to get to witness the this miracle of life unfolding.
That's wonderful! I have put several bird houses out and never once have any birds nested in them. The jays prefer building in low tree branches with dense shrubs nearby for the babies to hide in when they leave the nest. House finches will build nests in hanging strawberry baskets on the patio, but never once have I seen any bird pay a bit of attention to my bird houses. :-(
