What Should I Do?
The Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. —Proverbs 2:6

My friend Krista is struggling with a decision: Should she keep her old car with its continual maintenance problems or buy a newer model? She wants to be a good steward of her finances, and she desires to make a wise decision. And most of all, she wants to honor God.

Financial decisions can be tough to make. Billy Graham even says, "If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in his life."

Here are a few ideas to consider about wisdom in money matters:

Do a checkup to be sure you're following God's priorities. Are you giving to Him and to others? (1 Cor. 16:2). Taking care of family needs? (1 Tim. 5:8). Not letting money control you? (Luke 16:13).

Research the topic. Consider all the options and the pros and cons of each one.

Ask God for wisdom. Pray, pray, and pray some more. He will direct you (Prov. 2:6).

Trust God and make the decision. Use the knowledge and wisdom you've gained, and commit your decision to Him.

Obedience to God nurtures a growing love-and-trust relationship with Him. What's most important is that we see each decision as an opportunity to draw closer to Him.

When you're facing a decision
And it seems a daunting task,
Trust the Lord for true discernment—
He'll give wisdom if you ask. —Hess

The closer we walk with God, the clearer we see His guidance.

BIRD OF PARADISE

Graceful as a bird in flight
God and nature's filigree
Beautiful for all to see
Exotic in the dawns first light

Stretching out its neck so long
Lifting up its colors high
Flaming fingers to the sky
Shaming any poet's song

Sweeter than the rarest spice
When it's alone or in a crowd
Like sun rays through a broken cloud
Shines the Bird of Paradise

Yes, it's a flower not a bird
But that don't matter much to me
For beauty such as this will be
More precious than this written word.

Simply beautiful!

Looks like we are in for a "California Classic" today. I just heard the high will be 75 and sunny. Doesn't get much better than that....except maybe in Hawaii. ;-)

I looked at your picture of the Bird Of Paradise, and said that dosen't look like my BoP, here in AZ.

A little search, and I found a picture of the Desert Bird of Paradise:

This is what mine looks like.

Are they different plants? Related?

All is fine here and great weather as usual. Airlines are having some problems with Aloha Airlines and ATA both shutting down this last week. Some people stranded here but it's not a bad place to be stranded. Other airlines are trying to help get folks home. I'm traveling in August and hoping all the fuss is over by then and all back to normal. United and Hawaiian will schedule more flights and use more airplanes and that will take up some of the slack. Other than that, life is good.

Wow! That's a different plant! Very differnt from the B of P flower that I am used to. I've not seen anything like that around here. All the Bird of Paradise that I've seen look like the one in that graphic. I think the winters get too cold here for Bird of Paradise, but my BIL in San Deigo has one by his front door. Seems like it is always blooming whenever we go there.

Here is another Bird of Paradise. We don't have these around here either. ;-)

I'm traveling in July back to Boston and West Virginia. I've got our tickets secured and haven't heard about any problems with Delta, but it makes me nervous to hear about other airlines going belly-up. Like you, I hope things straighten out by this summer, but I am a bit concerned. Good luck with your travel plans, fish hawk.

Good morning, Yorkie.

Several years ago, I would see that plant in and around the FREsno area. I remember it being called a Bird of Paradise.

Have a Fabulous Friday and great Cordon Bleu Day!

INGREDIENTS

8 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
8 slices cooked ham
4 slices Swiss cheese, cut into 1 inch pieces
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup cornflakes cereal crumbs
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon lemon juice

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Place each chicken breast half between sheets of plastic wrap and pound with a meat mallet to about 1/8 inch thickness.
Place a finger of cheese on each ham slice and sprinkle lightly with thyme and salt and pepper to taste.
Roll up seasoned ham and cheese 'jellyroll-style', then roll each chicken breast with ham and cheese inside.
Tuck in ends and fasten with toothpicks.
Place melted butter in a small bowl and place cereal crumbs in a shallow dish or bowl.
Dip each chicken roll in butter or margarine, then roll in crumbs, turning to coat thoroughly.
Place coated rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for about 40 minutes or until chicken is golden brown and juices run clear. Serve with cordon bleu sauce, if desired.

To Make Cordon Bleu Sauce:
In a small saucepan mix together the soup, sour cream and lemon juice. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally, and serve hot over chicken rolls.
Makes about 2 cups; 8 servings of 1/4 cup each.
