The Pony Express was in service from April 3, 1860 to October 24, 1861.
The youngest Pony Express rider on record was 11 years old. His name was Charlie Miller but everyone called him Broncho Charlie.
Remembering that the territories west of Missouri were not all states yet, the Pony Express riders crossed what are the present day states of Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada to reach California.
Mail that arrived in Sacramento was transported to San Francisco overnight by boat.
There were approximately 165 Pony Express stations.
Lincoln's Inaugural Address, March 4, 1861, reached Sacramento in only 7 days and 17 hours! It was telegraphed from Washington D.C. to Kearney, Nebraska, then taken by Pony Express to Folsom, California, and from there it was telegraphed to Sacramento and finally published.
ROFLOL~~~:)
Well ... she is 8 now. She has lived with us for almost 4 years.
Don’t know if I should post this or not .... oh what the heck.
She was on the phone with one of her friends last week ... second grade, right?
She came over and said Savanna wants to know what ‘horny’ means.
I was not very fast on my feet. I told her it was not a word she or Savanna should be using.
What am I going to do when she is 10?
I have been going to this dentist for 25 years and he usually gives me another option when one is available.
I’m going to try to get a picture of Mr Kitty Mittens this weekend. We should be able to take him outdoors by Saturday.
Hubby will be happy to get the car back in the garage.
;^ )
Goodness me
Kids are really maturing faster and faster...
You could of just FR mailed it to me, if you don’t want it mentioned on here...
It’s okay to post it here. Just warning you what to expect. LOL
I think most have watched Marissa grow up! It may be shocking to see how fast she is growing up, tho. :^ )
NicknamedBob has written several poems for her. At least on for every birthday.
Conspiracy Guy has written at least one for her.
That is a beautiful black cat, Kitty Mittens.
I’m going to try to post a picture of Mr Mittens next week.
He has been in the garage for 2 weeks so he should be able to go outdoors Saturday. I don’t think he will run away but we will put a leash on him for his first time out.
You are so right, PG! Kids mature so fast. I remember a show called “Kids Say the Darndest Things” with Art Linkletter. I would love to get some of the old shows on tape, for rainy days - I would just sit and laugh!
Here’s a cute joke:
A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother,”Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today.” The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. “That’s interesting,” she said, “How do you make babies?” “It’s simple,” replied the girl. “You just change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘es’”
LOL!
Now, thats cute.....don’t we all remember those rules from a thousand years ago!
I am soooo happy to hear about the progress of Mr. Kitty Mittens, you have no idea!!!
Now, maybe he will start thinking about a photo op for us?:)
I will keep praying, though....
Thank you, Poetgal26! I've been Outside Working in the Yard, and the Birds were Singing Such Sweet Songs that they Made my Work a Joy. Butterflies are Everywhere; I Saw a Big Orange and Black One Briefly that was Extremely Beautiful.
I Hope your Day is Going Well, and we're So Glad you're Here with us at Amy's Place. : )
I had the Word ‘Hugs’ Written in Blue Fonts beneath the Rose I Posted to you in #234, but it didn’t Post; Lol, I Must have Messed Up my Typing. Anyway, Friendship Hugs Went with the Rose! : )
Bingo. You got it. You win the chocolate mousse at the end of a rainbow, if you can find it.

Trip lightly, trip lightly, just out of the town,
Then canter and canter, o'er upland and down,
Then trot, pony, trot, over upland and hill,
Then gallop, boy, gallop, and galloping still,
Till the ring of each horse-hoof, as forward ye press,
Is lost in the track of the Pony Express.
By marshes and meadow, by river and lake,
By upland and lowland, by forest and brake,
By dell and by canon, by bog and by fen,
By dingle and hollow, by cliff and by glen,
By prairie and desert, and vast wilderness,
At morn, noon, and evening, God speed the Express.
