The Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils,
Beside the lake, beneath the trees
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay;
Ten thousand saw I at a glance
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company!
I gazed - and gazed - but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

— William Wordsworth

Spring

The birds seem happy when they sing,
In truth, they call a warning.
To other males who might intrude,
“Go somewhere else this morning!”

With strident voice and puffed out chest,
They pose as on display.
The ladies flutter here and there,
Today’s a shopping day!

They’re looking ‘round for husbands,
And other things as well,
Material to build a place,
For gifts wrapped in a shell.

Happy Father’s Day, my dear,
Go find a bit of lunch.
I think we’ll have some company,
Expect to feed a bunch!

It all happens so quickly!
Life Springs forth in a pace,
That seems to make a joke of this,
Spring-fevered Human race!

Picture taken in 2004.

Thank you for The Daffodils!

My daffodils and ranunculas are blooming.
We've had some wind so they are leaning a little.
I love spring flowers.

Thank you for the lovely daffodils!

I need to take some current pictures.
Maybe I will do a better job than I did 4 yrs ago.

Thank you, OESY! I have been trying to figure out what that ‘bulb’ is above Wm. Wordsworth’s poem. Do you know?
