It's been quite a while but I finally caught sight of the deer who have been eating the fruit from my trees.
The little buggers have cleaned off my Peach tree a few times.
Still it is nice to see them.
Anyone else have any critter sightings?
This is unusual around here as I live in a fairly populated area so close to Massachusetts that I could spit into it, and I often do.
That’s a Red Bellied WP! I have one that has been drilling into my chimney for years now. I patch the hole (always in the same spot) and he comes along and begins anew. First thought was that I had termites, but I don’t. I saw one once dive bomb a squirrel, knocking him out of a tree. Sq must have been attempting to rob his cavity nest. Not sure if it was the same bird.
I’ve got a couple pairs of red bellies here. The eat a lot of ants off the ground during the summer. They wake me up during the summer when they hammer on my metal roof.
My favorite is the Pileated woodpeckers but we’ve got several small species too.
Ditto for the possums. They walk the top of my back fence line and taunt my dog nightly. There’s an old horse barn on the property behind me and I guess that’s where they live. I’ve seen more cardinals than usual this month.
Nice pics.
Thanks. Coyotes look well fed, don’t they? Wish they’d eat the feral cats that have taken up residence in my crawl space.
We live in Suwanee Georgia on the Chattahoochee River. Our back yard is heavily wooded. We finally got the idea to leave our back gate open and trailed deer corn through the backyard. We now have 8-10 deer visiting us each night, and sometimes in broad daylight, right up to our patio.
While I don’t have any shrubs or flowers back there right now that they seem to want to eat, the downside is I’m buying a lot of corn - 600 pounds this week.
Ummmm ... that's a lot of corn, especially for back yard feeding. You buying deer corn in 50 lb. bags, or in some sort of bulk? What is the price in your area?
I’m in southern NH, too. A bluebird’s been hanging out in my yard all winter. Pretty rare to see bluebirds in the summer, never mind in the winter.
I bought 15 bags - 40 pounds each. The price was $5.99 a bag, so a bit pricey, but corn is getting hard to find right now. If we’re going to keep feeding the deer, like we feed the birds, we’re going to have to find a local feed and seed to get the corn.
I was surprised, sort of, to hear ‘yotes in my very own suburbia, very late summer evenings. And two or three make a racket that sounds like a dozen, but there is no mistaking bowser from a yote.
We keep at least 5,000 lbs., but it is in trailers that can be pulled by truck or tractor. Luckily, we grow the corn, so it is reasonably priced ;-)
Rats with hooves.
Too close in (Austin) for boars. I see a few feral pigs from time to time but most yard diggers are armadillos.
I work in Corporate Woods, and we've got TONS of deer wandering around out there. I commute every day from Lee's Summit, and it's not unusual to see a few deer hit by cars on the way in too.
Don't forget that we've also got lots of turkeys and sightings of mountain lions too.

best way to see deer..

Ooh they’re dancing!!!!
From August first to March first i feed out over 5000 lbs of corn a month. Keeps the deer, turkeys and quail and dove happy.
