Ya'll have to forgive me for not sending out the Ping for last week's episode of Lost....I was out with that nasty flu bug and boy did it do a number on me... ;(

Anyhew....here is the latest LOST REPORT:

My Serious, Logical Thoughts on The Shape of Things to Come

Welcome to the shape of things to come

TITLE
Comes from the flashforward by Ben

QUANTUM CREEP
Ben seems to magically teleport to the Sahara. You notice her is wearing a heavy coat in a desert. Also he is laying on the ground and in distress. He has a wound on his arm and it looks like a little ice might be on his arm. The theory of teleportation fits in well with things we have seen previously. The airplane carrying the brother of Eko and do not forget the polar bear found by Charlotte in Africa. That is two African connections right there. The father of Locke also seems to have come to the island via teleportation. One gets the feeling that there is a direction teleportation device between the island and Africa. This would also mean that Ben lied about the boat of Desmond and taking it to Fiji. It would not be the first time he has lied. He also lied about the monster as Locke pointed out. He lies about a lot of things. So much for his claim to Juliet that he is not a liar.

That was a smooth move Ben made to take out those two guys in the Sahara. Ben as the hotel clerk what the date is including the year hinting that when Ben abruptly left the island he may also have been transported through time. The name Moriarty used by Ben was also the name of the Villain of Sherlock Holmes. What time did Ben come from? What it also 2005 when he left the island? I say yes. Also notice that this comment negates the claim of Ben that he traveled to Africa in the boat of Desmond. He would most like know the date if he came to Africa by normal means. But it makes much more sense that if he teleported to Africa that he might need to ask the date. The reason why Sayid appears on African television is because he is one of the Oceanic Six and everything they do is news. Apparently the Oceanic Six have won international fame.

RULES OF THE GAME
In the game of Risk that they are playing notice Hurley says that Australia is the key to the whole game. Oddly flight 815 also left from Australia. Is Hurley only talking about Risk or could his statement have a double meaning also referring to Australia as their point of departure?

DIAL Y FOR YESTERDAY
When Faraday contacts the boat about the dead doctor it seems the doctor is fine. The message from the island to the boat seems to have gone back in time slightly to a point where the doctor was still ok. I wonder who killed him and why? Michael during an escape attempt perhaps? The captain did just find out that Michael is a spy and we never saw and repercussions of that yet.

The speaking back in time is very similar to an episode of Deep Space Nine called The Sound of Her Voice in which the crew of the Defiant spoke with a woman who had been dead for several years. They explained the time lapse by the strange atmosphere of the planet she was on.

That is why when Faraday is asked when he last saw the doctor he said that time was relative. This is most like a reference to the theory of relativity in which time is relative. In the theory, for things that move very fast near the speed of light time slows down. It also happens in very large gravitational fields. It is hard to see how either of those applies here since the island is not moving very fast compared to the boat and there is not extreme gravity on the island. It must be a new effect. I would guess electromagnetics is somehow involved or maybe it is something else entirely new.

BODY COUNT
The writers have no qualms about killing protagonists or extras as can been clearly seen in this episode. The final body count is unclear but included: 3 LOSTaways, the doctor, Alex, perhaps as many as 6 mercenaries and one bell rung. Sawyer hints that some of the mercenaries survived when he says to Miles that your helicopter buddies went that way. Will Miles change sides now and join the LOSTaways?

WHO MOURNS FOR SMOKEY
How does Ben call the monster? Did Ben control the monster when it killed Eko? The smokey monster reminds me of a star trek episode called Metamorphosis

http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TOS/episode/68722.html

In this one kirk is able to speak to a cloud being using a Universal Translator. The cloud being sort of sparkled not unlike the smokey monster but smoke is blacker. You can see the cloud being again, sort of, in the Futurama episode Where no Fan has Gone Before. Does Ben also have a Universal Translator?

WHO MOURNS FOR MORSE
The abandoned Morse code is used by Faraday to contact the ship. Finally after being found a liar he admits that they have no intention of rescuing the LOSTaways. What Ben says is probably true. They probably intend on killing everyone on the island hence the season opening episode The Beginning of the End. Ben was right. Jack should have never made that call on the cell phone. I am sure that Jack will be shown regretting this in a flashforward.

QUESTIONS AND STATEMENTS
Why does Jacob trust Hurley to reveal himself to him? Why is Ben unable to kill Charles Widmore as mentioned in this episode? Ben mentioned that Charles changed the rules. This implies that Ben and Charles are playing some kind of game for control of the island. The game seems to have rules. One of these rules must be that one cannot kill the other so Ben cannot kill him. Also notice the mercenaries wanted Ben alive else they would have just torched his house. Perhaps the board game Risk was presented to subconsciously put the idea of a game into our minds. What does Charles mean when he says that everything Ben has he took from him? This probably refers to Ben annihilating DHARMA and taking over the island. It is a safe bet that Widmore was financially backing DHARMA.

Ishmael is the name of the killer of Nadia and is a biblical name. We have also seen the name Isaac in a previous episode thus both brothers Isaac and Ishmael have now been mentioned in the series.

When the monster shows up it is very dark, but is was clear day before.

When Locke and Sawyer have a standoff about Hurley it looks like Everybody Loves Hugo eh? Anyway we know Hurley will be ok since he is one of the Oceanic Six.

We also see how Sayid got involved with Ben as a hired gun.

For Hurley, especially, Australia is the key. Hurley's asylum-pal Leonard learned the "cursed lotto numbers" from Sam Toomey of Kalgoorlie, Australia (vide "Numbers").

Question raised: Did Charles Widmore somehow "send" Desmond to the Island, or did Jacob/Ben "call" Desmond to it, as a piece in the chess-match between Charles and Ben for control of the Island -- and now with Penny's life as a stake?
