The LOST Report

My Serious, Logical Thoughts on Meet Kevin Johnson

Welcome to Meet Kevin Johnson.

TITLE
Refers to a line that Tom said in the show when he introduced Michael to his new identity.

I KNEW HE WAS GAY
Ever since Tom told Kate you are not my type we knew that Tom was gay. But now we finally see the evidence in this episode when we catch Tom indulging with another man.

WHO FRAMED ROGER WIDMORE?
I first theorized that Charles Widmore was the one who faked the plane crash. Then the captain of the freighter implied that it was Ben who did it. So I thought the issue was settled. Especially when we see that Ben somehow has access to millions of dollars and has obviously traveled all around the world. So who faked the crash? Was it Ben or Charles? I now believe it was Charles. Here is why:

1. Sayid ends up working for Ben. He would not do that unless Ben was on the side of right or each of them had the same enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Also Sayid has an ability to tell when people are lying and he saw through the initial facade of Ben when he claimed to be Henry Gale.

2. Charles Widmore has the money and resources to do it. As for motive, the motive Ben gives is as good as any: To exploit the island for himself. I foresee him charging admission to the island to exploit the healing properties of the island. He will have to get rid of that monster though. Else we will have another Jurassic park like situation on our hands. Would not want the guests getting killed.

3. When mister Abbingdon confronted Hurley in the institution he knew that there may be other survivors of Oceanic flight 815. Later we see Abbingdon employing Naomi and putting together a team to go to the island. This man works for Charles Widmore. And the really big clue is when he is talking to Naomi and she asks him what do I do if I encounter survivors of flight 815. He tells her there were no survivors of flight 815. This statement only makes sense if Charles Widmore faked the crash and intends to eliminate any survivors that might be found on the island. This agrees well with what Ben said when he said that when the landing party got Ben they were supposed to kill everyone else on the island. It also agrees with what Ben said when he said if you make that call (to the ship) it is the beginning of the end.

LIGHT VS DARK
The fascinating light versus dark theme only hinted at in past season has now really come to light (no pun intended. Or did I?). Ever since Locke held up two backgammon pieces one light and one dark in the pilot episode, we have seen many allusions to the light versus dark theme including:

1. The light and dark pieces found on two bodies in the cave nicknamed Adam and Eve.

2. The lists of good and bad people.

3. The light and dark eyes of Locke in the dream of Claire.

4. The statement of Ben to Michael that they are the good guys. He also says to Michael in this episode consider yourself one of the good guys. If you have good guys then you have bad guys hence light versus dark theme.

The show seems to be hinting that the good guys are those that protect the secret of the island and the bad guys are those who want to exploit the island for their own selfishness. Ben seems concerned about the innocent lives on board the freighter. This is why he tells Michael not yet when he tries to activate the bomb. But Ben says when he goes to war he does what he has to to win. This may refer to his gassing of the DHARMA group. There were children in that group so this would seem as a contradiction to his statement. He may have labeled them casualties of war.

someONE will die
Hey the previews from last week said SOMEONE will die, but both Rousseau and Karl appear to be dead unless one of them survives. The weapons used did not seem to be bullets and made kind of a whizzing sound through the air. Also you heard no gun shots. They seemed like little pellets maybe. But they could be regular guns with silencers.

THE GHOST AND MRS LIBBY
Libby appears to Michael twice: Once in the hospital posing as a nurse and again on the boat to warn him not to activate the bomb. Like Scrooge haunted by Jacob Marley Michael is haunted by the woman he killed. Maybe we will also see Ana Lucia as a ghost? It is actually the island appearing to Michael in the form of Libby. How is that possible? I have no idea. But it happens. It has happened before such as when Charlie appeared to Hurley and Yemi appeared to Eko.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
Michael goes to Fiji to get on the boat. Fiji is also mentioned in the pilot episode. Fiji must be a somewhat near port of call from the island.
The mother of Michael has been alluded to before. Michael spoke to her on the phone at the airport. He asked her to watch Walt for him when he got back. Now in this episode she seems to be looking after him exclusively.
If Michael survives and makes it back to the mainland in the flashforwards then we will have an Oceanic Seven
The song playing when Michael slams his car is its getting better by Mama Cass. Is this a hint at a turn around for Michael? Like things are going to get better? Mama Cass was also featured in the hatch when Desmond played the song Make your own kind of music.
The last name of Michael, Dawson, was also the name of a Titanic survivor in the 1997 classic.
Notice the helicopter is missing from the freighter. It was alluded to in the last episode that the helicopter had gone on a mission to the island so this implies that more people from the freighter are now on the island. When Roussea and Karl are shot, it may be from the freighter people. Especially when we see them shooting flying objects off the deck of the ship. I think it unlikely that they would kill Karl and Rousseau especially with the daughter of Ben in such close proximity. Ben said that the bad people from the freighter might use Alex if they knew she was his daughter. That is why Alex says she is the daughter of Ben and raises her hands at the end of the episode. She knows it is the freighter people shooting and that they will not harm her if they know she is the daughter of Ben because Alex would make a nice bargaining chip.
Notice the different actor playing Walt because the actor playing Walt before hit a growth spurt. Perhaps in a flashforward episode we will see Malcom David Kelley again.
Question: How did the guy on the boat know that Michaels name was not Kevin? Answer: a ghost told him.
The code number sequence for the bomb contains no Hurley numbers. It does contain at least two sevens. Remember the episode enter 77 anyone?

LOST takes a break until April 24th. See you then.

Good thoughts.

I have several other thoughts:

1. Note that the ONLY people who have been able to get off the island (so far) are those that were far away from the Swan station when it blew up. Hurley, Jack, Kate (and Sawyer) were on the dock. Micheal and Walt were also near the dock. Jin, Sun and Sayid were on the sailboat. The exceptions to this are Sawyer (who may have chosen to stay on the island, or he was the one in the casket) and Aaron (who, being so young, doesn’t have the time travel sickness problem).

2. I’m convinced the Miles is NOT some sort of ghost hunter, rather he was part of an experiment conducted by Daniel Faraday...and he now is able to control his time travel.
