Heck if I know. Some other poster on this thread speculated that it was part of the process of blending the satellite imagery.

All I know is, it does indeed show up on Google Earth.

No. 8500 feet is the ground's elevation. Scroll right, the eye elevation is 19.66 miles.

I'm about to go have a look for myself, but that is huge. Usually, the flaws caused by the stitching of images are much smaller then this.
