I'm getting something of a chuckle out of reading all the Chicken Little "WOE IS US" posts over the primary election results from yesterday. Why? Simple. Because the one viable conservative candidate with the best chance of winning in the General Election is in a better position than ever.
In case you haven't noticed, Mitt Romney now has more delegates than all the other candidates put together. McCain's win in South Carolina has hurt Mike Huckabee bigtime. However, McCain will be much easier to defeat in the primaries in the long run than the Huckster which is good news.
And to all you Fred Thompson supporters. Now is the time to face reality and support the remaining viable conservative candidate---Mitt Romney. Romney is now in the best positition to harvest a big delegate count on Super Tuesday because of his superior organization and finances. Ultimately, McCain will lose out to Mitt.
With Hillary as the Democrat nominee running against Mitt in the General Election, Mitt wins. Why? Because I GUARANTEE one or more third party candidates (think Bloomy and Ralph and even Dennis) running because of leftwing disgust with Hillary. And guess who that draws votes from.
But don't take my word for this. I am sure Rush will put things into proper perspective on his show tomorrow.
In the past, I've held my nose, and voted for GOP candidates who were "lukewarm" on the Second Amendment.
I will never vote for anyone who openly, and repeatedly, advocates banning firearms, as Mitt Romney has.
I am sticking with Fred Thompson, to the end.
PJ-C, what about Romney is conservative? Do you know his record in Mass as governor, and of his wishy-washy stances since the primaries have started?
As sure as I sit here badly typing this stuff with all of my typos and creative spelling, if the repub party elects one of these rino/moderates in the general election the dems will take the WH.
viable conservative moderate, wishy-washy, rino canidate is about right...
Rush Limbaugh has NO problem with Mitt. Why should you? Listen to Rush tomorrow.
I thought this was a Ron Paul thread from the title.
I hope so too but it's doubtful. Even Ann Coulter says that Romney is "manifestly the best candidate". But the Impractical Ideological Purist wing on FR will never come around.
I remember when Rush said after the '06 elections no more rino's ever again, and if he thinks Romney is conservative and not a rino/moderate he's hasn't looked closely enough at this losers record. I can appreciate Rush's positive thinking, but I'm telling you unless coservatives start really fighting for conservative canidates we're going to lose. Whether a dem or a moderate/rino is in the WH conservatism loses, and that's what people need to understand.
There is no way me and millions of conservatives in this country are going to vote for a repub canidate "just because," any longer. We have to put our foot down sometime. In the 80's we did it, in the mid 90's we did it and we need to do it again!
I'll listen to Rush tomorrow, and it will surprise me if he touts Romney.
But he’s all we got, he’s the next POTUS.
It’s a shame Thompson didn’t act like he wanted the job. It was a brilliant opportunity to advance Conservatism.
Rush has been supporting Romney lately.
Rush does not change minds, not his business. If he had endorsed Mccain would that have really swayed you? Rush is popular because so many people think like he does about a lot of things, he can be informative and is funny etc etc AND he knows how you DON”T change minds.
Thinking that Rush gives us marching orders and we march is exactly what the liberals think and it is not true.
MR is half the conservative FT or DH are. Half is better than a quarter or none, but it’s still half.
Well, to me it’s all about beating the clinton/obama (or is it obama/clinton) ticket. Whatever republican runs gets my vote.
I reluctantly agree. Fred’s best course now is to endorse Mitt, and get some pledges out of him for it. If Fred had endorsed Mitt before SC, Mitt would have won easily. If Fred endorses Mitt in FL, he’ll win there.
Otherwise, we may wind up with McInsane or the Huckster.
“So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.”
Perhaps a little extreme, but it makes a point.
In SC, Fred's votes plus Mitt's votes was still short of McCain's votes. And an endorsement is no guarantee that all supporters follow that endorsement.
Well, not outright. However, Rush has said that either McCain or the Huckster would be disasters for the Republicans. So of the top tier candidates, guess who hasn't been similarly criticized.
It won't happen. Mitt has much superior organizion and finances than either of those two. Plus the Hucksters was severely hurt by not winning in SC. It will come down to McCain vs Romney. And I think McCain is taking public financing or am I wrong on this?
Frankly I’m disappointed in Rush, although I don’t know what he should have done.
Spending the third hour of Friday’s show discussing football got me hot.
Where and when I work doesn't always afford me the opportunity to listen regularly. Rush is wrong on this and I think he's going right back into his mentality of any repub is better than any dem. It's sad, because NOW is the time conservatives need to fight for conservatism more than ever.
Rush knows it's over if the repub party does not elect a conservative, and the only one I see now is Thompson out there, other than him, we're done this election!
Rush is always barking about the need for another Reagan, but you had a Reagan like candidate in this thing and now he is gone. Rush did not have to endorse him, but damn he did not have to leave him out to dry either.
