"To believe without a trace of evidence that there are other civilizations out there is irrational." RightWhale, I'm not exactly a statistician, but I have a feeling that probability and statistical studies can make such a belief at least rational.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that Immanuel Kant said he would wager a large fraction of his social advantages that there are civilizations on other planets. He was a wild and crazy guy.

BTW, statistics are meaningful in social studies but are not even mathematics.
