College Football Madness ( vanity )

Posted on 12/01/2007 8:42:42 PM PST by devere

#1 Missouri is losing decisively.

#2 West Virginia has lost.

Now who deserves to play #3 Ohio State in the national championship game?

LSU? USC? Georgia? Oklahoma? There seems to be no obvious answer.

Boise State is 68-9 over the last 6 seasons and has made a habit of beating BCS conference schools in the bowl games. You can ask Oklahoma about that.

I consider that grounds to call them a pretty impressive team.

LSU lost 2 out of the last 6 regular season games though TN’s luck did run out today and LSU beat ‘em.

I’ll leave it to the computers and the experts but if they decide to move the #7 ranked BCS team (LSU) ahead of #3 4 5 & 6 the system’s rigged.

I’ll cast my vote for Virginia Tech, which just beat a strong Boston College team, to play Ohio State.

And yes, we must have a playoff system soon!

Again, I ask, why Ohio State? Who did they beat the entire year? You will reward a non-conference schedule that includes Kent State, Youngstown State, and Akron, and a lackluster Big Ten schedule with a berth in the title game? Amazing bs.

Buckeyes will go to the National Championship.

I thought about VTech, but LSU beat them 48-7. To me that says they didn’t belong on the same field. What a great year to have a playoff in place. We are going to miss some great football because we don’t.

Seriously? It really happened or will most likely happen? I know I sound stupid because I don’t follow every game and every possibility. GO BUCKS! :-)

Why not?

“Buckeyes will go to the National Championship.”

Yes, but I think they will lose to our mystery team.

Yep and their “strength of schedule” has them with a 43 ranking. They had a weak schedule and it’s the luck of the draw.

Well, we’ll just have to wait and see about that, now won’t we.

“Why not”?

Because all the other teams battled their asses off playing better teams all year long. It’s a disgrace for a supposed top program to ever schedule Akron, Kent State, and Youngstown State in the same year, much less ever. Michigan is Ohio State’s ‘signature win’ this year and Michigan didn’t even belong on the field with Oregon. Ohio State played one quality team all year, and lost to Illinois. That’s why they don’t belong in the title game.

I'll second that statement.

I don't know why they chose to play weak teams outside of their conference. I don't care. I'm a Buckeye. I'm glad OSU is going to the national championship game, but we beat Michigan this year.

THAT's all that matters.

They schedule these games so the money stays in the state. Those games were big paychecks for other Ohio schools.

I'm glad OSU is going to the national championship game,.....

I'd bet you are. I think whoever they play will give 'em just a bit more than they may be asking for.

I tend to think of the SEC as playing the toughest schedules year in and year out.

Ohio State played and beat 3 ranked teams with none ranked better than 20th and then lost to an unranked team.

I vote for some sort of playoff system or put more emphasis on a teams schedule strength.

Just my opinion of course.

Then I guess the number two team will just have to win.

There are a lot of middling-good teams this year, but no standouts, so the proper question to ask may be:

“Why should anyone care who plays in the national championship game this year, because the champions of most if not all the years previous could spot the winner of this one 14 points and still win handily?”

I'm with you on the playoff system. I don't want to gloat, but I'm glad that OSU is going to a national championship game. And I think whoever we play might be surprised at what OSU gives them.
