Correct, its lightly populated though that wasn’t always the case. The Iron industry took a hit from cheap imported steels, and then other things happened to drive the folks away. Especially since the ‘Hate Corporations’ state tax policies drove a lot of the business out of the area!

A cold place like that would be great for steel production.

Sounds like Taxachusetts, taxing coporations out. Of course, Taxachusetts taxes everything at least once.
