BTW--a good friend of mine moved out to Oregon about fifteen years ago. She only makes it back to the mitten once a decade. Every few years, her dad sends her a care package with, among other things--Vernor's.

Like I said, I've lived here all my life. What are some other Michigan staples that other states lack? Besides Canadian governors, I mean.

Vernor's -- a couple of years ago my wife surprised me by bringing home a six-pack of Vernor's. The "local" (it's 5 miles away, but still the nearest) supermarket carries it now (not much, though). It had been over 3 decades since I'd last had a Vernor's.

Good apples. Out here they're all Washington or New Zealand apples. And they're lousy.

Springtime (okay, not a staple). Seattle has the world's best summers, but Michigan the best springtime.
