I asked about six weeks ago if you could give some newcomer “a little” of the history of the UT, and you posted a whole bunch of small print....*sigh*

If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were one of my brothers....

Hey, Sis, is this better? *\;-)

Another quick, tiny review of the castle:

Then again, a review of the layout would be of service to our more recent arrivals. Most of them don't know where in space we are.

You might even want to join in. The Habitats A and B are open to entrepreneurship. Many people have set up shops there for handmade items and small restaurants. A good interhabitatnet café would be a charming way to entertain the rest of us. I'd have to warn you that the selections of coffee beans is pretty limited, since we have to grow our own, but spices of all kands abound for adulterating various types of beverages.

Cheese and wine are also possibilities. We have a lot of time on our hands; it takes four years to make an orbit out here.

History of the Flying Castle:

Well, it started with the castle, of course. And at first, it didn’t fly. It was just a castle.

We had a moat, a courtyard, a great hall, magnificent rooms, a tower, and of course, dungeons.

Actually, they weren’t really dungeons. They were caverns and tunnels and excavations under the castle, usually ending where the fractured rock gave way to more solid substrate.

I’m not trying to be annoying — sometimes I just succeed.

I don’t know how you did that, but I copied the first line and when I pasted it, it was “normal.” Oddly enough, I can read it all...like reading through a mirror....

Finally made it to "holiday." Took forever to get the expense report completed, thanks to an entry with the wrong dollar amount and the wrong date. Then found LoM's present in under an hour in the stores (jackpot on the third try). Got home and we wrapped and packed (almost) all the presents to family; LoM is shipping them now.

Now I can relax. Except for the slew of church services ahead, and I'm on deck to serve for several of them starting tomorrow morning.

Good!

I was sure those tags existed, because I had encountered their effect recently when I was putting together a presentation and, to illustrate a point, I put in a word in Farsi. It was odd -- I was entering the letters in left-to-right order, but they were appearing on the screen right-to-left.

OMG! Your comment led me to look at your profile page (I don't see "occult" there and I have friends, well distant, who are). But your travels -- you've never been to Michigan? A beautiful state, though not dramatically so. If it weren't so blue, with high taxes and nasty overlong Februaries, I might consider returning.

Still considering taking LoM on a tour, and it's beginning to look like May (no travel scheduled for that month right now) or September (probably after Vienna redux, and before the fall travel season gets into high gear).

I think I’ve flown over Michigan, does that count? I don’t think I’m done traveling, so I won’t cross it off my list just yet!

(While I was in Wal-Mart today, I saw a boxed set of Harry Potter books...in a “trunk”...and I was SOOOO upset that they quit their lay-away...$129. I want that. )

Sorry...”flying” makes me think of HP....

LOL! I have put SO much time into developing my computer "filing systems"...

Microsoft's systems don't work for me, or anybody else as far as I can see.

Well, Microsoft’s stuff doesn’t work for me, either, but I figured it was more “operator error” than software problems.

Not at all! I've flown over it a lot, once over my hometown (I have photos) and even through DTW, the airport from which I departed, but you're not seeing Michigan at all unless you're on the ground.

That got brought home some years ago when my new travel regime took me to Ohio some years ago. Headed from meetings to the airport, I ended up for a stretch on a state highway (not freeway), and particulars of the neighborhoods I passed just leaped out at me, they were so different from anything West Coast and so much like what I remembered.

I'm not sure that even touring one would get the real sense of the place, or the people.

A couple years back I saw my hometown from the air; next year I intend to see it from ground level, 40 years after my family moved away.

Do you think that gives enough information?

I’m guessing that most folks don’t understand the economics of what we’ve built, and how it functions.

I’ve thought of doing a treatise on it, but I’m worried that I might get a bad “crowd reaction.”
