How does Grand Harbor, Malta, look today compared to when that photo of the HMS Birmingham was taken?
Yes I am British, born in Yorkshire, and although I now live in Spain, it is not because of an Englishman's lust for the sun, but because my late wife was Spanish and was born in La Coruña.
The Grand Harbor in Malta is a National Heritage Site and has hardly changed at all. Except for the fact they built our apartments next to Fort St. Angelo, the home of the Knights of Malta. This affront to historical preservation caused the downfall of the previous government.
But over in the next bay, Sliema, which then was a quiet backwater, is now filling up with high-rises as you can see below. I have previously shown pictures from the Hilton at ground level, here is an aerial view:
