This place gets my vote for one of the spookiest anywhere, no matter what the season.
Manchac Swamp, Louisiana
According to local legend, an imprisoned voodoo queen cast a curse on this area sometime around the turn of the last century, resulting in the disappearance of three hamlets in a hurricane in 1915. Occasionally, a corpse still surfaces in this otherwise untouched bird sanctuary. Torchlit, swampboat tours are available through these eerie waters amid the ancient cypress trees draped in Spanish Moss and along side patient aligators but buyer beware.... that far-off howl you hear just might be the rou-ga-rou, the Cajun version of the Wolfman. edited
