May 21, ‘07 - It was a heartbreaking confrontation at the gates of the cemetery where the late Anna Nicole Smith is buried, as her half-sister, Donna Hogan, tried to visit the grave of Anna Nicole and her nephew, Daniel.
Outside the gates of the cemetery a security guard blocked her path and wouldn’t let Donna through. “I can’t stand this,” she said. “I just can’t take this. They won’t let me see my sister’s grave.”
Donna never had the chance to say goodbye to her sister. As the world watched Anna Nicole’s funeral on television, Donna says, behind the scenes, the family was in a vicious in fight.
“I don’t want to go into the details, but our family is such a messed up, dysfunctional family,” Donna told INSIDE EDITION.
Donna said Anna Nicole’s mother, Virgie Arthur, called her just three hours before the service to un-invite her to the funeral. It was then Donna knew she’d have to return to say her own goodbyes.
The morning of her cemetery visit, Donna picked up some yellow roses to place on her sister’s grave saying they reminded her of Texas, and said she wanted to “bring a piece of Texas” to Anna Nicole and Daniel.
According to the cemetery, Howard K. Stern, who owns the cemetery plots, has cleared only three people to visit the grave: Larry Birkhead, Anna Nicole’s infant daughter Dannielynn, and Anna Nicole’s mother.
After several minutes, the cemetery manager came out and made an exception, finally allowing Donna to say her goodbyes.
When Donna got up close to the graves, what she found upset her even more. Her sister, who spent her entire life working to become a legend like Marilyn Monroe, is lying in an unmarked grave.
What’s more, Donna was incensed that while Howard K. Stern was apparently leaving pink roses on her sister’s grave, there was nothing on young Daniel’s grave.
After spending several minutes kneeling on the graves, Donna emerged from the cemetery, more shaken than ever.
