The Etruscan city-states battled one another, the same kind of clan feuding that tore Greece apart during the Persian Wars and the Peloponnesian War, the latter of which was really several wars in series and parallel :’), the last one being that in which Thebes destroyed what was left of the army of Sparta, then freed all the helots, particularly in Messenia. For that matter, centuries later, the same type of disunity led to the gradual gobbling up of Celti-Roman successor states in Britain; when one fought the Saxons, or the Angles of Mercia, a neighboring cousin would conduct a raid while they were occupied.
Kinda reminds me at times of FR, or the Republican Party... ;’)
