Hopefully everything is ok, but posters shouldn’t be shamed out of reporting first-hand accounts of unusual things.

I think the ridicule derives from the fact that the poster apparently has nothing intelligent to say about the situation. Even the title of the post ("My First Post Ever") invites a less than serious reply.

Now had the poster had something substantive to say about the situation, such as where he is located and what exactly he saw, I think that the responses would be more on the civil side.
